Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP)
The Medicine Horse staff and horses partner with counseling professionals to address mental health and developmental issues directly and effectively. Horses have proven to be versatile and dynamic assistants in therapy. Equine assisted therapy effectively minimizes a client's time in treatment due to its ability to bring issues to the surface in a non-threatening environment.
EAP aims to promote explorations of feelings and behaviors in a therapeutic format. Horses can evoke intense emotional responses in those who work with them, and clients can learn about themselves and their relationships through specifically designed equine activities. A licensed mental health therapist helps clients process feelings, behaviors and patterns and relates these issues to how it affects life outside of the horse arena.
We offer individual, family and group sessions for clients who:
- Are pursuing mental health counseling.
- Are experiencing loss and grief.
- Have been victims of abuse.
- Would like to gain a sense of empowerment and control.
- Have food, drug or alcohol addictions.
- Have a life-altering disease or disorder.
*For the safety of our horses, there is a client weight restriction of 180 lbs.*
